Important Information from Mr. Stout!!
Following is a boatload of information for you all. Please read, digest and plan accordingly.
First, I miss you all....I get lonely for teenager antics that help keep me young. I can’t wait to see you all again.
All of the information below is AS I KNOW IT as of today (July 2). You should have received a packet in the mail containing the following forms:
2020 Parent Letter
2020 Marching Band Dates to Remember
July 15 Registration Night Itinerary and Protocols
Medical Treatment Consent & Travel Authorization Form
Parent Volunteer Form
Show Shirt Order Form
All of the above forms can be downloaded by clicking on them.
Please read all of it carefully, and make sure you understand what is being asked of you and the rules attributable to marching band. Our first night is scheduled for July 15 (itinerary below) please be on time and understand the process will look VERY DIFFERENT than in previous years. Be flexible, patient and kind. There are certain rules we MUST follow to be able to participate. We all will do our level best to adhere to those policies.
Participation - IF YOU ARE NOT PLANNING ON MARCHING THIS FALL, I NEED TO KNOW THAT ASAP. Please email me and let me know. There are documents and databases that need to be created and all of that is participation relevant. PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
Music – Sheet music is available under the MORE tab at the top of the website page. Download and print your specific music based on the instrumentation sheet that is attached.
Leadership - We have a unique opportunity this year to do a virtual leadership academy with Dr. David Montgomery from Baylor University in Texas. We will have on-line video sessions on Aug 5 & 6 from 9:00-11:00 am each day. Anyone, regardless, is welcome to attend but leadership team (upperclassmen) is required. PLEASE RSVP WITH ME OF YOUR INTENT TO SERVE ON LEADERSHIP AND ATTEND THE VIRTUAL MEETINGS. RSVP must be turned into me via email no later than 7/31 at Midnight.
I do not know yet, exactly what the season is going to look like...we may make all these plans and then things need to change. Understand please that I am not always the first to get relevant information regarding our activity, and things may have to adjust very quickly to accommodate a new recommendation. We're all just going to keep smiling and doing our best to put the best product we can out there under these current rules and understand that we can be the models of the building when it comes to adjusting to those changes.
I hope you are all well and taking care of yourself.
Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns and I will do the best I can to answer them for you.
Pancake Breakfast - Friday, August 21
Pancake Breakfast - A great way to start the last day of band camp!! The annual Pancake Breakfast will be on the morning of Friday, August 21st. More information coming soon!!
Parent and Community Show – Friday, August 21
The Parent Show is set for Friday, August 21st at the KC football stadium. The Parent Show is a long-standing tradition that gives us a chance to see the show that our awesome kids have worked so hard to prepare. It also allows the kids to perform the full show for a friendly audience. This performance will be the first of many performances that the band will participate in throughout the fall including home football games, competitions, and parades. Watch for details for this event during the summer.
We will need lots of volunteers to donate items and to volunteer time for both of these events. There will be sign-up sheets for items and volunteering available soon.
Email Account for Band Reminders!
A message from Mr. Stout:
If you are not receiving email reminders from the band, it’s because we do not have your personal email address and we cannot send it to your school account. If you wish to receive those updates for the week every Sunday night, click this link and add your personal email. It’s really quite easy (even I figured it out!)
Thanks to Ms. Wheaton for setting this up.

Payments For Band Fees-DUE
The Band Boosters set a budget based on the income from participation fees and fundraisers. A major part of our expenses occurs in late Summer into early Fall. Below is a breakdown of participation fees in more detail.
This year the base participation fee is $160.
Band Members that own their own instrument:
$160 participation fee + $35 shoes + $5 gloves + $10 show shirt = $210
Percussion (including Pit):
$160 participation fee + $35 shoes + $10 show shirt = $205
$160 participation fee + $60 shoes + $10 show shirt = $230
Please remember, one new pair of gloves are given out every year. All incoming new marchers need shoes OR if new shoes are needed the $35 fee will be charged ($60 for Color Guard). We ask that participation fees be paid at Registration Night. The participation fee increases to $185 if paid after the end of band camp and increases to $205 if paid after the end of September. The fees for shoes, gloves and show shirt remain the same. You will see that payments do increase as the year progresses.
Payments can be made in the form of cash, money order, check or credit card made out to Kalamazoo Central Band Boosters. If your student has money in their student account, the money may be taken from their account. There are many options to assist with payments of participation fees.
If you feel you need assistance to cover these fees, please email Melissa Wilson at email@example.com to set up a payment plan. She will be the only one to have access to this information. Arrangements must be made with Melissa Wilson by/on Registration Night.

Concession Stand Volunteers
The marching band manages the concessions for Kalamazoo Central HS. This brings in $4,000 per year for the band. We need volunteers to work the different concessions throughout the school year. If you can help, please contact Lynn Berlin at Swerdnarl@aol.com or (312)925-0022.
Thank you so much parents! We couldn't do what we do without your support.
We need parents to ride the bus with students to and from on our Saturday competitions and our weekday MSBOA festival. If you are interested in chaperoning competitions this marching season, please contact Lynn Berlin at Swerdnarl@aol.com or (312)925-0022. See online calendar for competition dates and locations.
We will need 4-6 parents per competition depending on who the staff are riding the bus.
All parent chaperones must pass a background check. If you wish to chaperone, please complete and sign the form below as soon as possible. You may return the form to Lynn in person or by email.
We will need a completed background check prior to chaperoning. Lynn would like to have a small/short informational meeting with anyone willing to do this. It’s a fantastic way to get your feet wet as a first time band parent. The kids are a lot of fun. This is how a lot of our parents and Boosters got started with volunteering.

Spirit Wear and Show Shirts!!
Show Shirts: Each year we have a show shirt designed for our marching show. The front is the design with the competitions listed on the back. The show shirt is considered part of their uniform during marching season and one show shirt was included with your band registration fees. If you wish to order an additional shirt for yourself or your student, that option will be available soon.
2020 Spirit Wear and Show Shirt Order information will be available soon!!
